Texas Hold’ ‘em Poker Tournament on Sky Princess

 My wife and I are sailing on the SkyPrincess in March. We enjoy playing poker, does the Sky Princess have Texas Holden Tournaments?  If so, what is the cost?

The electronic Texas Hold' Em table is open for cash play when the casino is open.  $1/$2.  Usually, they have one tournament on a Sea Day (maybe 10am?).  Entry fee is usually $60.  After that play, table turns over to cash play.  The preceding applies to all ships. 

 

The new tables also have side games like BJ and Baccarat, but limited features.  I did try the BJ and you can only split once since the display area is too small.  Nonetheless, BJ pays 3:2 and you can play 1 or 2 spots and bet as little as $1.  I played around at it a few times and won some bucks.  I was upset though when I had A's and split and got A's again and couldn't split them as you can on a live table.  Same thing happened to me another time when I was dealt 8's and got more 8 after splitting.  PMO.

Solely from observing others play, the electronic table deals the virtual cards, asks each player in turn if they want to fold/check/bet, moves virtual chips around the table top, flips out the common cards and reveals them in the appropriate manner, and then runs the rest of each hand,  It's really no different from playing in a virtual cardroom.

 

I have no idea how a rake works, but I'm sure there is one, and it's probably hefty.

Your hand is face down.  When you tap on it, it reveals the corner of the cards.  So you hold your hands over it so your opponents don't see your hand.

 

There is usually a free play, lesson, at the beginning of the cruise.  They let you know how to play, then give everyone at the table maybe $50 in free play (which you don't get to keep) and you play 3 or 4 hands.

 

Also, if the table is full for a cash game, it is not uncommon for the casino host to come around and buy a round of drinks.  That kind of tells you what the rake is, lol.  They should probably do that even more often with all of the drink packages going around these days.  Wouldn't really cost the ship much at all.
