Jorg_ Posted December 13, 2022 #1 Share Posted December 13, 2022 Hi! We’re going with Norwegian Joy from LA through Panama Canal to Miami in January. Anyone done that trip and know if we need to have Yellow Fever vaccine prior to our cruise? Thank you.

Treasure Hunter Posted December 13, 2022 #3 Share Posted December 13, 2022 We did the trip and our travel doctor did not give us a yellow fever shot. Unless we were going to Brazil, it wasn't necessary. However be very care about Mosquitos especially at dusk because of Malaria and other local diseases (we used Deet towelettes) . We did get the shot, which is hard to come by and expensive when we went to Kenya so now we are set for life.
roger001 Posted December 13, 2022 #4 Share Posted December 13, 2022 Googling, various reports say yellow fever is pretty much non existent, including Panama. We've been through twice. I do recommend the book The Path Between the Seas: The Creation of the Panama Canal, 1870-1914 by David McCullough. This will make the trip so much more interesting. We did the same trip in reverse (Miami -> LA) and were not required to have the Yellow Fever vaccine. Per the CDC, it's not necessary if you're just passing through the canal zone. I second the recommendation to read Path Between the Seas. It is an excellent book, and greatly enhanced the canal transit experience for me.
