Charter Flight Logistics for Expedition Cruises

As a Ponant newbie and first time traveler to the Antarctic, I have questions about the air charters that Ponant arranges.  The documentation we have received for our upcoming cruise - In the wake of Jean-Baptiste Charcot, states economy class seating and luggage limitations - one checked bag @50 lbs., one carry-on @ 22 lbs. and a personal item.  Additional baggage has to be declared in advance or can be refused.  How do you declare the additional luggage, if any?  Has anyone experienced this and, if so, was there a charge for an additional bag?
