Trolley vs Duval Loop bus

Does anyone have any recent experiences with either the trolley (not the conch train) or with the Duval Loop bus? I’ve heard it can sometimes be difficult to hop back on the trolley as it is often already full and the the bus can be unreliable. I’m interested in getting a little taste of Key West while making a couple of stops for quick sightseeing and photos.
