MamaParrotHead Posted March 7, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 7, 2006 Looking into flight possibilities and wondering how far (miles) and how much (cab fare) that West Plam Beach (PBI) and Ft. Lauderdale (FLL) airports are from Bayside/port in Miami? Thanks.
sobore Posted March 7, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 7, 2006 They are reasonably close and there is a train that runs from Miami up past West Palm Beach, check out http://www.tri-rail.com/ .
TrqoisWtrs Posted March 7, 2006 #3 Share Posted March 7, 2006 FLL is about a 35-45 minute ride to Miami. When we cruised last November, we used this company. Comes recommended on this board. Even factoring in transportation and the airfare, it was still cheaper flying into FLL than MIA. (I think I've read where people don't recommend using the train. You might want to do a search.) custompcsys Posted March 8, 2006 #4 Share Posted March 8, 2006 I have most of my immediate family in the Miami area, so I'm in and out all the time, and have also cruised out of the Port of Miami. I always check fares going into both MIA and FLL, because as you've found, there are times when FLL can be significantly less expensive. West Palm would be a long taxi ride and probably expensive...its close to an hour drive from Miami. FLL would be much more reasonable. If you don't make limo/shuttle arrangements before your arrival, you might want to try the ground transportation area in the baggage claim area when you arrive. They have various options available, from limos to van shuttles, all at varying prices. Another option you have is the rental car companies don't usually charge a drop-off fee for picking up a car at FLL and returning in MIA, or visa versa. Definitely a reasonable taxi ride to the port from the Miami airport, and if you have time to kill before your cruise a car might come in handy since public transportation in Miami is virtually nil. Hope it works out, and happy cruising!

Avoid this train at all costs, someday it will be a reliable, 'on time' service but right now a 45 minute trip from Ft Lauderdale to Miami takes an hour and a half (minimum) on the Tri-Rail. :o
