Our upcoming cruise includes Taormina in late September. In order to plan our day it would be helpful to have information about where tenders are likely to land, how one gets from there to the town itself and how one gets from there to the Greco Roman theatre. Some of our group will have mobility issues so availability of trsnsport options would be useful to know. All tips would be appreciated.

You mention tendering, so you must be anchoring in Giardini Naxos rather than docking in Messina, and wanting info on how to get to Taormina from there, but that isn't at all clear from your subject line which could reduce the number of replies you get

 

My memory may be hazy but I think I remember some CC/Italy chatter  a few years ago pre-pandemic whereby cruiselines could no longer offer shuttle buses to/from Taormina as local taxi drivers objected to losing business, but as we never tendered there, instead docking in Messina each time, I have no first hand experience.  Others may be able to confirm if that is correct or not, but for best replies I think your subject line would need to more accurately describe your question.

 

And using the CC SEARCH facility would bring up all previous threads and replies which you can read.  I would though, suggest using Giardini Naxos or simply Giardini as your search criteria  rather than Taormina which would generate a really huge number of results.

Thanks Cruisemom42 and Edinburgher for your suggestions which I will follow up. I might also post on the Holland America sìte as they have been sailing direct to what they call Taormina and use tenders. It is a HAL cruise we are on and that is what the itinerary shows.

If no luck there, GN is actually a beach resort.  I would encourage you to search online for public buses or taxis from GN to Taormina.

 

You cannot possibly miss the theatre. Easy to spot.

We took a bus up to Castelmola - higher up.  Enjoyed walking around there.
