CruiseFan94 Posted January 24, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 24, 2023 (edited) It seems they dropped the island of Corfu and put the small boring port of Katakolon for Olympia in every cruise. Sacrifice a greek island for a mainland port. Good job NCL! If you have been in Olympia as we did, then don't bother getting off the ship. And don't be fooled to get an excursion through NCL! Private excursions just outside the port for 1/3 of the price. Edited January 24, 2023 by CruiseFan94

gatorchinsky Posted January 24, 2023 #3 Share Posted January 24, 2023 When I booked our November cruise (this past October), Corfu was never one of the ports. We actually have 2 sea days which we were fine with.

You are the lucky one to get another greek island with great beaches. Those who are going to Katakolon mid-summer with so much heat, oh boy! Bennyboats28 Posted January 24, 2023 #5 Share Posted January 24, 2023 Did NCL give a reason for this change? We're going on RCI in October to Corfu and hoping this isn't something related to the port.

Oceania also chopped port stay times a couple of days ago. Edited January 24, 2023 by SummmerInKefalonia
hernando52 Posted January 24, 2023 #7 Share Posted January 24, 2023 We just got the email today that Corfu has been replaced by Olympia (Katakolon) for our Sept 23 cruise on the Breakaway
bluesea777 Posted January 24, 2023 #8 Share Posted January 24, 2023 (edited) To be frank, we prefer Katakolon to Corfu when going on the Greek Islands cruises. Katakolon is much smaller port and the waterfront is lovely with several restaurants. The main road running the center of town, behind the waterfront, are full of shops, some selling lovely merchandise. We have been to Corfu 3 times, went on NCL tour twice, and didn't bother getting off ship the 3rd time. Corfu is nice, but it's an island where many people flock there by air to spend their holidays, and like Malta, it can get crowded. Katakolon is a cruise ship port and the tours from there take you to Olympia and some other places, but once you have seen Olympia, you, on subsequent cruises, can just walk around the town, shop, visit one of the restaurants to enjoy the greek food, etc. for a few hours off the ship. We have been there twice, and would like to go back. Edited January 24, 2023 by bluesea777

bdramsey Posted January 25, 2023 #10 Share Posted January 25, 2023 Our cruise in June not only dropped Corfu but dropped Athens. That one is really maddening as it is one of the main Greek islands I wanted to see. Luckily there are other ports I want to see of I might have cancelled the cruise.
