Port Everglades transport

Our cruise is a month away and everythings in order - flights, hotel, all except transport back to our hotel after the cruise. Should we try and reserve a car to pick us up for transport to the La Quinta in Hollywood so we can hang out on the ship a little before disembarking OR should we just try and get off the ship with the hordes and grab a cab??? If we are some of the last to get off the ship are there still cabs??? Is there some way to call a cab if there are none??? How much is a cab from the port to the airport area??

Being we live minutes from the port we're always one of the last off the ship. There's always plenty of cabs available. You won't have any problems. ;)
