Am I crazy to consider hitting London May 1-4?

I have a cruise leaving from Hamburg May 7.

I have some TAP Portugal credits to use so I was going to fly into Amsterdam, arriving the 4th, then take the train to Hamburg the 6th.

Well flights are much cheaper into London..and I could fly out Sunday April 30 (wedding April 29).

I could go to Amsterdam the 4th. (fly or train?)

BUT I realize the coronation is the 6th.

One part of me says the crowds will be the worst over the weekend...but I realize things will begin to be more crowded before that.

I've never been to London. I scoped out a hotel I can book with points (tho may consider an airbnb) near the London Eye. Just want to see the top sites. Of course, so will everyone else.

Thoughts?

Flights & hotels are quite reasonable for the beginning half of the week so I'm thinking I'm worrying for nothing.

Monday May 1st is a public holiday in the UK (as it is in much of Europe) so many London tourist attractions may be very busy that day.

 

The 2nd, 3rd and 4th should be fine. Sure, it won’t be quiet and preparations for the coronation will be in full swing, but they’re normal working days so I think you’ll be fine.

When they call for a bank holiday does that mean that museums are closed?

No, all the major museums should be open. They only tend to close over Christmas.

Thank You. That's great. Wouldn't go on the day we arrive (05.06) but good to know Sunday and Monday will be open albeit crowded.
