Wondering for those who hit up the excursion desk upon boarding to be put on a waitlist for an excursion, how frequently do people get on their desired excursion?  Looking for in general, but sailing on an eastern Caribbean cruise myself and hoping to not have to book private - thanks!!

My one time asking to be waitlisted was a failure, excursion staff were reluctant to even take my information. But it doesn't cost anything to try.

I think I was only on a waitlist once - and got the excursion when they added another bus.  But obviously adding capacity isn't always possible. If there is an excursion you want, I'd suggest you continue to monitor the website to see if it comes back, either because of a cancellation or the addition of more spaces.  Unfortunately, if you book something as a backup plan, you aren't able to see anything that conflicts.  I've also had the shoreside excursion people tell me to keep calling - I don't know how often the website updates.  And you never know, if people keep calling it might trigger adding more seats.

Otherwise, all you can do is get on a waitlist once onboard.  Pretty sure I made someone's day on my last cruise when I cancelled a very popular excursion.

I think it greatly depends on what type of excursion it is, and possibly even what cabin you're in. On our Alaska trip we wanted to do the private Hummer tour, but it was sold out. We were booked in the Haven on that trip so I reached out the concierge. Within 2 days we were notified that they were able to add on an extra car and we were booked before getting on board the ship.

As soon as we got onboard we got on the waitlist for an excursion on our Caribbean cruise.  We were notified the day before the excursion that we were able to participate in the excursion!  We received the shore excursion tickets in our room and were super happy about it.  Another plus is that we had some non-refundable OBC from the casino and since we booked onboard we were able to use the OBC to cover the cost of the excursion!
