bencruzN Posted May 26, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 26, 2004 If you can open the safe with any magnetic stip card, what is the use in using the safe anyway. I can have valuables in there and they are really not safe. Or do I have it all wrong? Heading for my Destiny
selucrey Posted May 26, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 26, 2004 It's like the safe in most hotels. You "Program" it with your credit card and it can only be opened with that card.(The room steward can open it though) It's not the most secure system but that is all that is available.Another option for expensive jewelry etc. is to put it in the ship's safe. Let's see what we can stir up! SINSATION 10/23/04 CONQUEST 10/19/03 INSPIRATION 10/21/
InMN253 Posted May 26, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 26, 2004 I've left large (for me) amounts of cash and traveler's checks in the room safe. No problems. Pat K.
cruisinfanatic Posted May 26, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 26, 2004 The room steward definitely cannot open the safe. If you are not able to open it for some reason, only security can open it. tef43 Posted May 26, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 26, 2004 The safe may only be opened with the *same* mag stripe card that locked it. And only Security can override it. Eleven cruises so far. Sea Turtle Posted May 26, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 26, 2004 I concur with the post above by cruisinfanatic. That has been my personal experience. NAVY WIFE Posted May 26, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 26, 2004 What about the Holiday. I hear they have a number pad. Where do we get that combination from and who else would know it? Days till Holiday

Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) is a method used to nondestructively inspect ferromagnetic materials like steel. A magnetic field is applied to steel to magnetically saturate it, so that it can't hold any additional field. In the presence of a flaw, some of the magnetic flux escapes or "leaks" into the surrounding environment, where magnetic sensors like Hall probes detect it and report a flaw signal Let's see what we can stir up! SallyMay Posted May 27, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 27, 2004 Was on the Holiday. It has a 4 digit code. You make it up yourself. We used it with no problem. Only DH and I knew the code. Sensation 4/23/05 Holiday 4/2004 Holiday 4/2003
Cotton Posted May 27, 2004 #13 Share Posted May 27, 2004 Navy wife, Sally's correct. The Holiday safes use a touch pad. You put in your own 4 number "code". Now, just because I can get too much in a hurry at times, in trying to open the safe one day, I hit a wrong button. No way would that safe open. SO, I asked the room steward if he could open it. Nope, but he called somebody (assuming from security), and she used some kind of 'master key tool'. I was more careful when touching in my numbers from then on. tankersbabe Posted May 27, 2004 #14 Share Posted May 27, 2004 The Fantasy uses the four digit code, and the folks that left before us, locked it with their four digit code when they left, and we couldn't get the stupid thing open and had to call for help. Security came and opened it, not our room steward. I like that much better, as I locked my credit cards in there, no way was I keeping one out to open the safe...so what is the purpose! If they would just open with the sign and sail, that would be great. Stef Fantasy February 2004 Looking for my next cruise! WHOOO HOOO!
cyn123 Posted May 28, 2004 #15 Share Posted May 28, 2004 They ask you not to use your Sail and Sign card. My husband had a Wal-mart gift card with about 3 bucks on it and that's what we used. That way we could lock up all our credit cards and not have to worry about having one with us at all times. CYN123

cruisinfanatic Posted May 29, 2004 #19 Share Posted May 29, 2004 One reason you should not use your sail and sign card is if you lose it, a thief will not only have access to your cabin, but to the safe too. I've seen cards left in the door slots. Bad idea to use the card.
