Hurtigruten British Isles cruises

After many years of river cruising I am considering trying a Hurtigruten British isles cruise as a way of dipping my toe in the water of open sea cruising on a small ship. I've been used to daily port excursions being included in the price but it seems to me that Hurtigruten charge for the majority of theirs and that they aren't cheap by any standard. A daily, payable excursion would add considerably to the overall cost. Does anyone have any views on whether such excusions are worth the money (for example a guided walk on the Scilly Isles is over £50) or if it's possible to do my own thing in most ports? I'd also be very grateful for any other thoughts about their British Isles cruises for a newbie.
