Bringing wine on board

Has anybody brought wine bottles on board for consumption in your stateroom recently?  We are on the Breakaway out of New Orleans in April.

If I am reading NCL's policy correctly,  it states that there will be no corkage fee assessed if the passenger has a beverage package, and there is no bottle limit.

Is this true?

We brought 4 bottles on board in Panama two weeks ago. They did the security check in the terminal at Colon. The women running the scanner tried to pull our bottles aside. She didn’t speak English very well. Her supervisor stepped in and I showed him our room card with the premium drink package listed on the card. He told us to go ahead. No corkage fee, no more hassles.

We brought two of the bottles to different specialty dining restaurants during the cruise and the staff happily opened the bottles and filled our glasses for us. We drank the other two bottles on our aft facing balcony as the sun set on different nights. Our steward emptied the mini bar fridge of the standard “pay for” bottles and we kept our wine and pre ordered Flow water in the fridge.

No fuss, no muss!

Did you bring your own corkscrew?

We were on the Breakaway in the Haven two weeks ago.  We brought 4 bottles of wine and carried them in a hand held bag for wine (free at our local grocery store).  We had early check in (9:30 am) and the bag went through security and there was no one that checked them in.  Before they changed the rules there was an employee at a desk at Security that tagged each bottle for corking fees.  We hand carried them to the Haven Restaurant and left them there.  At meals they were opened, poured and stored if not completely empty.  In our room there was a corkscrew.  No charges at all!

Thank you! Can I ask how was the rest of Haven check in in New Orleans? We will be in there in about a month- I haven't heard much about Haven check in at this port- what time did you get on board?

We arrived around 9:15 (our appoint. was 9:30 to 10:00) and never heard any announcement but stood in the line where the "checkpoint" for documents etc.  Once we saw someone there, (which was less than 5 minutes) we got in the line, and went through security in less than 5 minutes.  We went straight to Haven check in  and received our keys and escorted to waiting room.  I believe we were on board around 1130 a.m.  All done without any hiccups.

Funny story. We did bring a corkscrew. We challenged ourselves to do a 9 night cruise with just carry on luggage. We succeeded… to a point. Researched what we could bring in our carry on from Canada and a corkscrew is given the thumbs up as long as the blade on the waiter’s knife style corkscrew is less than a certain length. I believe it was 6 cm. I placed a waiter’s knife style corkscrew in my toiletry bag and there was no problem going down to Panama City.

On our way back home they confiscated the corkscrew at the first of two security checks at the Panama airport. At least we got to use it on board the ship. Security did miss the 2 mini bottles of Blue Curaçao liqueur in my toiletry bag but they tossed my corkscrew in the trash bin.
