Transatlantic Cruises...less crowded than usual cruises?

Our November Escape TA had 2,200 passengers...or about half capacity.

TA cruises are less crowded because most people can't take off from work, school, etc., for extended periods (in our case, 17 days). Most of the people we saw were retirees, like us.

Are Transatlantic cruises usually less crowded than regular shorter round trip cruises?

If so, what percentage?

The Gem was about 1/2 full in December, 1,200. Barcelona to NYC

The next cruise (Dec 22) they were expecting 3,000 for the Christmas cruise in the Caribbean.

We have only sailed Holland America so far but both times they were TA's and they were only 1/2 capacity. the first one had 11 kids, including our 3 and this was pre-covid. The 2nd one our 3 were the only kids on board and we sailed spring of 2022.  I would suspect now that more people can "work remotely" we may see these TA cruises be a bit more full but still under the shorter round trip cruises. Plus they tend to be off season and not during major holidays.
