Blue and Green Posted March 5, 2023 #1 Share Posted March 5, 2023 Driving in the day before cruise departs from Cape Liberty, and thinking about staying at a hotel in Bridgewater NJ. Looks like it is about an hour away from the cruise terminal. Is this a good area? We will want a restaurant for dinner, maybe a little shopping? From the midwest, we've cruised out of Red Hook before, but never Cape Liberty.

Bridgewater Commons is a mall. Shop Rite is the best area supermarket. If you are driving I 80 east, Parsippany NJ is an area to stay ovrrnight. Arriving at Cape Liberty before 10:15 or after 12:15 will avoid the backup of vehicles approaching the terminal. Bring the parking ticket with you, it is needed to pay before going to your car when disembarking.

The Bridgewater Marriott is a decent option- full service hotel that’s recently undergone a renovation (stayed there for a wedding over the summer). Walking distance to a few corporate chain restaurants like Maggianos and the restaurants at the adjacent Bridgewater Commons Mall. Very similar set up, but a little closer to the port, would be the Hilton Short Hills. This would be more upscale than the Bridgewater Marriott and the Short Hills Mall across the street is much more upscale than the mall in Bridgewater- more along higher end shopping you’d find in New York. Walking distance to a bunch of restaurants as well.
Arubamoose Posted March 11, 2023 #4 Share Posted March 11, 2023 I live close to Bridgewater. Have cruised out of Bayonne many times. The Marriott is a good choice. Bridgewater Commons Mall is close. There are decent restaurants nearby. If you are a little adventurous - try heading out to the next town over - Somerville. Hundreds of restaurants - nice downtown walking - especially if you are staying in the summer. Another option is the Hilton Garden Inn - attached to the Bridgewater Promenade outdoor 'Mall'. May be a more economical choice. Lots of discount liquor stores nearby to purchase wine if you are on Royal or Celebrity.
