dcsam Posted March 12, 2023 #1 Share Posted March 12, 2023 I posted the following on the Oceania board, but thought I'd ask here too. According to Oceania's website, a wheelchair can't be wider than 22". We have an electric one that's 24" total width - it's foldable. Perhaps Oceania's policy refers to seat width? Our electric wheelchair is nothing out of the ordinary. We also have a transfer chair, and I believe it would fall within their parameters. I was hoping to bring the electric one since it allows for being pushed (best in crowded areas within the ship) or electric mode when out and about. I've seen some very, very wide wheelchairs and scooters on different lines, but am curious about Oceania's policy. Looks like their website links up to a different website where one can rent equipment, and some of those look quite wide. Thank you
Tee & Chilli Posted March 12, 2023 #2 Share Posted March 12, 2023 The cabin door is probably 22 inches. You’ll need an accessible cabin with a wider door.

I figure I’ll have to fold it (takes all of a couple seconds) to bring it in and out. I’d probably have to do that with the transfer chair too.
Joseph2017China Posted March 20, 2023 #4 Share Posted March 20, 2023 The policy does not prevent you from bringing something wider. It simply is that you can drive it in, which is very common. You can fold it, so no issues. I do this all the time with my wife's scooter, simple fold up, and slide in.
FOPMan Posted March 20, 2023 #5 Share Posted March 20, 2023 It is a big issue if transferring into or out of a wheelchair is an issue.

If that is the case, than the poster will need a HC room since no way can a person that is immobile do it. I believe the discussion of door width so to determine if a wheelchair or scooter is allowed, if it is foldable.
candydane Posted March 26, 2023 #7 Share Posted March 26, 2023 How wide are the HC doorways? Are the a “standard” width or vary by room/cruiseline?
katisdale Posted March 27, 2023 #8 Share Posted March 27, 2023 (edited) Princess has a mobility questionnaire that is required to be filled out if you are bringing a mobility aid. In the small print on the form it states that a standard room door is 21 inches wide while an accessible room has a 31 inch door. I do not know about other lines. FOPMan Posted March 27, 2023 #9 Share Posted March 27, 2023 Door widths can vary by door, cabin class, and ship, with the general exception that wheelchair accessible cabins are thevsame size on any particular ship.
dcsam Posted March 28, 2023 Author #10 Share Posted March 28, 2023 Thank you. Sounds like we’ll do fine. He can get out of wheelchair; I’ll fold it up and he’ll use the walker in the cabin. Easy peasy.
