A few questions about Sovereign cabin choice

Recommended Posts

We're close to booking a short cruise while in FL over the holidays and I'm hoping the seasoned Sovereign cruisers can answer a few questions. Even though we've cruised previously on the Sovereign, cabin choice this time is a little more difficult (we were mid-ship deck 9 last time).

We're staying away from deck 9. I was disappointed that I had to look out over lifeboats to see water. According to the website, Decks 7 and 8 have obstructed views, I assume the lifeboats and the promenade. So, now I'm down to deck 6 or 4.

The important thing is having a window in lieu of a porthole. Can anyone advise on the type of windows in oceanview cabins on decks 4 and 6?

The website says that a few of the deck plans will be changing in May. I can't see the changes other than category. Does anyone know how the changes affect the cabins?

I want to be well informed before we book a cabin. I know, it's just a little cruise, but a little cruise is better than no cruise! We are considering it as our Christmas presents to each other. Heck, it's probably cheaper than our regular Christmas gift giving!

Oh, the date is Jan 2, 07. And besides wanting to get the most bang for the buck, we have to shell out $$ for passports this go-around. No more getting around not having them!

Merion Mom... you seem to know a great deal about the lovely Sovereign. Can you offer assistance w/cabin choice?

Thanks all!

Great. We are on deck 9. I didn't realize we wouldn't have a view. I assumed they just meant 8 didn't have one. That's why we opted for a SOV cabin instead of a cheaper one.

I didn't think the view from deck 9 was that bad. If you haven't seen it, click the "pictures" link in my signature. There are a couple of shots of the view from 9026 in that album.

Shelby: How many cabins? If you want one, book 4594. If you need two, take 4594 & 4596. If you need three..........you guessed it: 4594, 4596, 4598.

Deck Four is the PERFECT location when you don't want to fork over twice as much for a JS. (which IS a nice cabin with a really nice balcony). The cabins on Deck 4 have decent windows. Deck Four has the Purser's Desk, and one of the dining rooms. The other dining room is on Deck Three. One deck up to shops and the Casino and the Schooner Bar; one more up to Boleros. One deck down to Photo Gallery.

I make these suggestions by looking at your cruise date and the available cabins on that sailing. :)

Thanks Merion Mom. I knew I could count on you. If we can save a few $$ by booking deck 4 lower, all the better.

And to BMWMOM, I'm sorry. I didn't mean that the cabins on 9 aren't nice. They are nice and the view is fine. From our cabin mid-ship, we just couldn't look straight down from the window and see water. The lifeboats were below. We didn't expect to be able to look down and not see water as we did on the Grandeur. Of course, nothing can beat the center hump balcony cabin we had on the Mariner. :D

I'll be booking in the next couple of days (if not sooner!)

Let me know how it goes as we are in 8080 deck 8th on March31st. Also if you were able to stop at CocoCay!

Thanks, and have a great trip!

We just got off of the Sovereign of the Seas yesterday. Had a wonderful time. We had 6092, 6094 and 6096 on deck 6. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. I know some people would shy away cause of elevators. Didn't hear a sound. We were literally right behind the elevators and nothing past us which meant NO TRAFFIC running past our rooms.

Last year we had kids running back and forth at all hours and you could definetly hear that.

Also, far less walking. just get off the elevator and turn R. your room is right there. also, big benefit... just about 5 steps down to Deck 5 which has all the shops, Casino and Follies theater.
