Rare mskaufman Posted March 21, 2023 #1 Share Posted March 21, 2023 We have a half day tour scheduled in Kirkwall with an option for either morning or afternoon. Some in our group think that it is more likely to be foggy in the morning. Is that a real risk in northern Scotland?
Rare Scottishclover Posted March 21, 2023 #2 Share Posted March 21, 2023 Certainly the north-east of Scotland is prone to harr ( a Scots word for sea mist). I remember when my sister-in-law was looking for a house in Aberdeenshire she avoided certain areas as she said you would never get your washing dried due to the harr. However, you can never predict it. You would be more likely to have clear skies than fog. I say clear skies but be aware the Northern Isles do get a lot of cool temperatures and rain, even in summer. I will keep my fingers crossed that you get some sunshine.
MeHeartCruising Posted March 21, 2023 #3 Share Posted March 21, 2023 Our September stop in Kirkwall could not have been a more clear and sunny day. All day. Beautiful visit. But who knows. Enjoy your stop.
Rare mskaufman Posted March 28, 2023 Author #4 Share Posted March 28, 2023 Thank you. Wishing for sunny skies. Just trying to ply the odds. I think we will tour in the morning and visit Kirkwall in the afternoon.
