silversurf Posted April 3, 2023 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2023 We are going on 21 May, Contrasts of Scandanavia. Does anyone know when formal nights are?
cruiserj1965 Posted April 3, 2023 #2 Share Posted April 3, 2023 (edited) How many formal nights can I expect on my ocean cruise? Formal nights are traditionally a highlight of our cruises. They'll be: One formal night for cruises from four to seven nights Two formal nights for cruises of eight to 11 nights Three formal nights for cruises of 12 to 21 nights Usually on sea days, will not know until onboard. The dates will be listed in the today programme Edited April 3, 2023 by cruiserj1965
nosapphire Posted April 3, 2023 #3 Share Posted April 3, 2023 Previous experience says you will only find what nights are formal once you get on board. The "Today" programme in your cabin when you arrive will list the planned dress code for each night of the cruise and subsequent "Today" programmes will show the dress code for that particular night (it can change mid-cruise if circumstances make it necessary)..
arlowood Posted April 3, 2023 #4 Share Posted April 3, 2023 As a rough indication, formal nights are organised to coincide with sea days on a cruise. This allows all involved a more relaxed time to prepare. It also eliminates the likelihood, during a port day, of people on a late returning excursion being stressed about getting ready on time. It is unlikely that you will ever encounter a formal night on the first or last day of your cruise. These observations are offered as a general "rule of thumb" but don't shoot the messenger if circumstances dictate otherwise
