Best hotel to stay in BEFORE a cruise- Vancouver, BC

Recommended Posts

Flight got cancelled and we are going a day early to Vancouver, BC.

What is a good hotel to stay in?   I understand we are flying in almost an hour away.

Where should we stay?  Near the airport?  Downtown near the cruise terminal?

What is a good hotel, close to food, maybe some restaurant attached or entertainment style venues before we cruise?

If your new flight is late enough the plan was just straight to sleep OP, airport works fine; if you enjoy good Chinese food, airport area hotels have some of the best dining on the planet for you within walking distance or very short & cheap cab rides. There's even a casino (with hotel inside, right on the SkyTrain line, the Red Rock).

If you want to actually See Stuff, downtown is where it's at - and heading there in the evening means most likely a 30min drive, whereas depending what time you come downtown in the morning if you catch any commuter traffic then the drive could be 45mins, even more if you travel in peak commuter 8-9am timeframe.

Almost all downtown hotels are in great locations whatever you want to see or do - the peninsula where we pack almost all the touristy stuff makes San Francisco look positively spacious! Literally any downtown hotel will have restos and attractions within a short walk.

Given pricing this season I've been pushing folks toward the YWCA hotel even more than usual - it's the most recently-renoed downtown hotel (main building just finished, and the new wing only got built 3 years ago), consistently ranks in the best hotels in the city at any pricepoint, and offers pricing that is usually cheaper than any airport hotel (occasionally the latter might look a few bucks less - but even taking transit downtown means $7-11pp round trip, with cabuber more like $80 RT). If they still have a room on your date I'd jump on it, fast!
