helovestrains Posted April 20, 2023 #1 Share Posted April 20, 2023 Hi, we disembark in Southampton on a Saturday and would like to go to Glasgow that same day. Looking at the train (thought about enjoying the scenery) but am finding it somewhat expensive. Never having been to the UK, would the train be worth the cost? Looking at different options for our journey. Thanks
gumshoe958 Posted April 20, 2023 #2 Share Posted April 20, 2023 The train will take roughly 7 hours and involve a change in London as well as a tube or cab journey to transfer between Waterloo and Euston stations. That’s almost a full day travelling, and the direct line from Euston to Glasgow is not at all scenic for the first 3 hours. You could go via Edinburgh, which is very scenic north of Newcastle, but that would add another hour or so. The easier - though also expensive - option would be to fly: Loganair fly twice on a Saturday direct from Southampton to Glasgow, at 8:40am (probably too early) and 2:50pm. Flight time is 1 hour 20 minutes.

If this is for a disembarkation in Southampton on Saturday 2 September 2023, you are too early to get prices for the train anyway. You can generally only book up to about three months ahead, and I think that as of today you can only book up to about 12 or 13 July 2023.
