winning bid on travel auction

Does anyone have any experience with booking a cruise with a voucher that has been obtained on a Public Television Station travel auction - or something similar? My brother is bidding on a 7 night cruise for 2 in an outside cabin on HAL as an 80th birthday present for our mother - just about the only thing left on her wish list is to cruise Alaska! There are the usual restrictions - No Holiday sailings, no 11 - 15 day cruise tours, but the big one is based on availability. We realize what would be offered is no doubt the totally obstructed view on the lowest level possible but I am wondering what other roadblocks there could be given that Alaska has such a short cruising season and the voucher expires 1/27/07.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
