OBC refunded to CC or cash?

I see where you're going -- but I will probably spend less than my OBC, so it would be nice not to have to fiddle around with writing a check and being refunded OBC.  A matter of money in one pocket vs. the other pocket.

You're asking about fees if they refund a portion of OBC to your credit card?

No, no fees.  I know for sure because I have left the ship having spent less than my OBC, and I've seen the refunded money hit my credit card ... took a couple days /less than a week.  All very fair.

I'd rather have the cash, so I'll just cash out at the casino on a slot machine, play a little maybe, and cash out.

YES, THEY DID. Maybe we're not clear with each other on this. But I know they were doing a 10% charge if you wanted the spare OBC back on the credit card. It happened to us on one cruise, after that, we only do cash accounts and withdraw the card account because we never overcharge and just use the OBC.

How long ago are we talking about and are you sure it was RCI?

I don't know if maybe I am referring to the same thing, but there was a time, just a few years ago, if you had a credit card account and you wanted your left over OBC back onto the card, it was a 10% surcharge/service fee (something like that). When they told us this on one of our earlier cruises, DH went and dumped the leftover OBC onto a slot machine and cashed out.

Maybe this is something that's just never been noticed? Yet I am not sure if they're still doing this?

If this had happened in any kind of regular manner in the past 10+ years, there would have been several threads and folks would be chiming in. While it is very hard to prove a negative, it is very unlikely it ever happened.

If you never actually incurred the 10% charge and were just scared off by someone mentioning that you were simply misled by whoever told you that. Again, there's no charge for getting your OBC back on your card.

If this happened to you, there must have been some other circumstances.  As you can see, many of us have done the same thing, and have never had a 10% fee,  In addition a 10% fee does not even sound right.  It's a lot higher than the costs for credit card transactions.  Clearly, at this point, you must see that.

Clearly do, was talking with hubby a moment ago, he swears there was some kind of a "service fee" where it had to do with left over OBC with the credit card. I wish now I could remember the cruise, now he's thinking it was that one Carnival cruise, it got us into making sure there was never a credit card involved and we only do cash accounts.

Nothing wrong with that, but to make your life easier don't be afraid of leaving things on credit card with RCI.

any way to get non refundable royal obc thru the slot machines?  i have 100 because of the pricing error thing earlier this year to burn.

The slot machine doesn't care the kind of OBC you load to it - it will cash any kind.

ok so it will draw from the royal non refundable OBC before my refundable TA obc?

Don't know the slot machine has any priority which kind of OBC it uses - you have a $500/day limit. I suggest you cash in all of it.

Some folks may have more than $500 in OBC they may want to cash out.

Yes but $500 is the limit for the trip unless they gamble $250 of it each time!

So after the initial $500 you are better off paying the 5% to get out more....

The reporting on how much you can get out total varies - but most report that you can go back some time after the initial cash out and get some more.  Once money is downloaded to the slot machine you don't need to gamble any of it before being able to cash it out (except promo money).

If a couple is sailing, one could transfer the rest of the OBC to the other person in the cabin and have them cash it out.

If a couple has more than $1000 in OBC, perhaps there are not that worried about cashing it out.

That has changed recently - it is one time only now - unless you gamble 50% of the money.

You are not up-to-date 😁

Someone even posted a screenshot of the new rule....

See the edit of my post.

Also, what someone posts on a ship or rule posted by RCI doesn't always translate in real life on all ships.

Unfortunately this one does...have to see an exception yet - after the last downgrade 🙄😢

The casino is very different than the rest of the rules on the ship!

There is a service fee for withdrawing cash in the casino if it goes against your credit card.  5%  The casino is charged an interchange fee by the bank, and they pass it along to you.

Refundable OBC is entirely different.  It's against Visa and Mastercard rules to charge you for a credit back to your account.
