cberge Posted March 13, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 13, 2006 We're planning a Mediterranean cruise this summer and are also thinking of adding on another week of vacationing, most likely touring Italy. Any thoughts/suggestions/experiences regarding this? Peter We do it all the time.Depending on where your cruise ends say in Rome or Venice you can spend as many days you want to either or then take the train to Florence for a few days ending up in R or V and then flying out from there. You can do days trips out of each othe cities ro just stay and explore. You can check out hotels in each of the cities that suit your needs(I suggest city center),and when you arrive in each place if youi have not been do a city tour and then see what outher tours away from the city that you would like to see and do.Make your plans soon as summer is high season and hotles get booked up fast. Scottish Cruiser Posted March 13, 2006 #3 Share Posted March 13, 2006 Yes. It works great, especially when you are going to Europe. Last year we flew into Glasgow, spent a week in Scotland, flew to London, took Eurostar to Paris and spent 5 weeks touring Europe before picking up our cruise in Venice. Flew from Venice to London where we spent the weekend, flew to Edinburgh and spent a week there before flying home from Glasgow. In Italy we visited Pisa, Cinque Terre and Venice - loved all except Pisa, but only because it rained all the time we were there! This year we are flying to Glasgow, spending 2 weeks, flying Edinburgh to Amsterdam, picking up our cruise (not HAL) which ends in Basel, taking train to Lugano in Switzerland for a week, then back to Frankfurt and flying home from there. Go for it.
