TRAVELBUGCRUISER Posted June 10, 2023 #1 Share Posted June 10, 2023 How many days deviation is recommended for November cruise, flying from Canada to Rome? I don’t feel comfortable flying the day OF. Do most people go 1 day before or 2 +? I always want to consider possible winter weather delays. Thank you!
JandC_Cruising Posted June 10, 2023 #2 Share Posted June 10, 2023 If you budget allows, deviate as much as possible. There will be no lack of things to do in Rome! Keep in mind that most any flight from North America to Europe will leave at night and arrive the following morning. I've seen conflicting reports as to how NCL books North America to European deviation request...Is it based on when you leave home or when you arrive at your destination? We've done NCL Bogo Flights before and deviated, but never to Europe. If you ask to deviate 2 days and it's a Sunday Departure: Will they book you on a flight Thursday (3 days before cruise), arriving in Rome on Friday (2 days before cruise) Or Will they book you an a flight Friday (2 days before cruise), arriving in Rome on Saturday morning (1 day before cruise)

A 2-day deviation means arriving 2 days before your cruise. When your flight leaves depends on the flight schedules and how long it will take you to arrive at your destination. So you will arrive sometime on Friday with a 2-day deviation request for a Sunday departure. If it's an 8-hr flight for example, you might leave Thursday night and fly overnight, or Friday morning, arriving at your destination later that day. If it's a 24hr flight, you would leave sometime Thursday. Note - that's the usual process. There are rare instances, due to flight availability, where the requested deviation can't be honored.
Rare insidecabin Posted June 10, 2023 #4 Share Posted June 10, 2023 Minimum evening flight 2 days before to arrive morning before with one night hotel. Weather delay is just one factor we look at schedules to have back ups flight in mind. If a flight is cancelled what's the next opportunity to do the route. I just called for a 2 day deviation for Rome today on my sailing. The fine print says they’ll get you there by midnight. So your one day can quickly turn into a 7 hour jump start- still exhausted.
