Post cruise luggage storage Oslo and tour/ airport transfer suggestions

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

We have a late afternoon flight out of Oslo on the day of disembarkation and want to spend a few hours sightseeing before our flight. We dock at Filipstad port, which is the furthest port from downtown Oslo and doesn't have luggage storage that I can find. Does anyone have any recommendations for luggage storage in Oslo near the port? Or recommendation for a small group tour  with airport drop off?

Thanks

Filipstad has very few transit connections, so I would not want to store luggage there even if it was an option. Head straight to the central train station, and store your luggage in the lockers there. Then it will be readily available whenever you are ready to catch the train to the airport, and you won’t have to make a separate detour to go pick up your bags.

Labor is so expensive in Norway that guided tours are not especially common. Especially in places like Oslo, where it’s easy to navigate on your own. And since the airport is so far from the city, any kind of airport drop-off would be a wholly separate service. This is why nearly everyone takes the train to the airport (either the dedicated Flytoget airport train that runs every 10-20 minutes or one of the three hourly Vy routes that stop at the airport).

Thanks for the information. Is Filipstad walking distance to the central train station or will we need to arrange transport? We will have our luggage with us.

Do we need to book train tickets ahead of time or is day of fine?

Filipstad is around 3km from the central station. I have walked it with hand luggage, but you’d probably want to get a ride if you have much more and aren’t familiar with the route.

The bus 81 runs from the Filipstadveien stop near the port to the “Jernbanetorget” area around the central station. On weekdays, it runs every 10 minutes outside of rush hour (it skips the stop from 7:20-9:45 and 17:30-18:20). On Saturday and Sunday mornings, it runs every 30 minutes. Tickets can be purchased using the Ruter phone app and cost 40 NOK.

A taxi would probably be around 250-375. The OsloTaxi app shows a max price of 270 for a booking on a weekday morning, but taxi rates in Norway are not fixed and different companies have different rates. Oslo also has limited Uber service.

No need to book train tickets ahead of time. You can buy them at the station whenever you’re ready to depart. Aside from a few specific cars on the Vy trains, all seats are unreserved. (Standing is always possible, even when it’s crowded, and the trip takes around 20 minutes).
