Pretty Woman Posted June 19, 2023 #1 Share Posted June 19, 2023 Hi, We are from Scotland, sailing on the Epic in the Mediterranean in July. I would like to know what currency I should pay our onboard account. I have asked several people and getting three different answers. Dollar. Euro or Sterling. Even my bank couldn't advise me. TIA. Rare genealogyfan Posted June 19, 2023 #2 Share Posted June 19, 2023 I know for those in the US, if we are in another country it's better to pay in that country's currency, even on a credit card. For example if I was in Scotland, and I was charging something on my credit card, if the merchant asks if I wanted to be charged in US dollars or the local currency, I would say in the local currency. It's always been advise to not pay in US dollars on your credit card. The exchange rate is better. On that same advice, I would suggest if you have a choice, have it charged in your local currency. JandC_Cruising Posted June 19, 2023 #3 Share Posted June 19, 2023 (edited) All NCL ships operate in US Dollars, regardless of cruise itinerary. Your shipboard account as well as prices on merchandise, menus, etc. are all transacted in US Dollars. The Casino tables take US dollars as well. The ship will typically exchange currency for US dollars if needed for that activity. Everything else is charged to the on board account and then settled in US dollars against the CC you put on file. Here is the information from NCL FAQ on Currency: Certainly, while in ports, you will want Euros to pay locals as necessary for anything you would pay cash for.
