We were in Norway for a land based break a few days before our most recent cruise, and though we did not experience this ourselves, we became aware of an anti-cruising campaign there. They had signs up in some cities, shaming cruisers and saying they should book a "proper vacation". There's even news about it. I would imagine that, for many reasons, having hundreds of people hitting your town for a few hours every day could get old, increased cash flow notwithstanding. https://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/norway-anticruise-poster-campaign-b2125605.html This is something they need to take up with their government. But I would be willing to bet if they did take it up with their government, it will tell them to go pound sand. Were anyone in a place I visited to say something disparaging to me, I'd tell them they need to dismantle their port.

Resentment to mass tourism, including cruise ships and their passengers, is growing. This is particularly so in highly visited cities and regions such as Barcelona, Venice, Amsterdam and Norway. In fact, Norway has already announced some restrictions on large ships in the fjords. In this changing environment, smaller ships may become more popular with both passengers and ports. In this regard, I recommend the smaller Seabourn and Silversea ships in addition to SeaDream. I am also giving Emerald Yacht cruises a try in the Caribbean this winter.
Rare knotheadusc Posted Tuesday at 05:03 AM Author #28 Share Posted Tuesday at 05:03 AM We recently visited Iceland on a land based tour. While we were there, I happened to notice Swan Hellenic's new SH Vega ship, which only carried about 100 people or so. It's an expedition ship, but I'm seriously thinking about looking into their cruises. I also saw what used to be one of the Seabourn triplets. I think it was the Pride. I have been thinking about SeaDream again lately, though. It's been way too long since my last cruise!
