Vancouver Airport Hotel Help

I have always stayed  in downtown   Vancouver one night prior to my cruises from Canada Place. The hotels are really expensive there now. I am looking at the airport hotels to stay overnight. Could you please tell me which hotel at or near the airport you have used and liked. I would need to get a taxi from the airport/hotel to the pier. How easy is that to do?

The Holiday Inn Express Vancouver Airport is a reasonably priced property that is fairly new and provides complimentary breakfast and shuttle service to/from YVR.  It's beside a Costco and Tim Horton's is a 5 minute walk.

Should you choose, you can take the hotel shuttle back to the airport and catch a taxi from there to the Canada Place.  Only reason why I mention this is because the taxis to the Canada Place from YVR are flat rate C$38.  Hail it anywhere else and the meter is run.  Could be a good or bad thing depending on traffic conditions.

Sometimes hotel in downtown Vancouver drop rates a few days before your stay if there is still a lot of availability.  This past June I got the Pan Pacific for $275 plus taxes 2 days before my check-in date.  The EXchange Hotel on Howe is also nice.  Not much to see in Richmond where the airport hotels are, which is why if only for few bucks more I would say downtown.  But if downtown hotels were a lot more, I could bear staying at the Holiday Inn Express.

I usually book a refundable rate if I'm really far out, cancel and rebook under the cheaper non-refundable rate before the cancellation deadline of the refundable booking.

I've stayed at the River Rock Casino - excellent hotel and amenities.  I'd choose Holiday Inn (new-ish) over the Abercorn Inn (old!). Haven't been to the Radisson Blu since it changed over from Delta River Inn, so cannot comment on whether it has been renovated (also quite old)

Great advice from SCX22 to catch the shuttle back to YVR for a taxi downtown, expecially since traffic is usually a nightmare.

How is the Hampton Inn Airport?   ALSO- Is the Skytrain easy to access from there?

Hampton Inn YVR is old and run down.  There's lots of construction in that area right now, so the walk to the SkyTrain isn't so great.

River Rock Casino Hotel has a walkway Bridgeport Station and the Radisson YVR (not Radisson Blu) is right across from Aberdeen Station.  Both are fine hotels for just one night.
