Jacksonville cruise port- 8 hours to kill but I will have my luggage

My flight home from Jacksonville isn't until 8:30 pm, but even if I go super slow off the ship I will have about 8 hours to kill which wouldn't be an issue except for my luggage which I have no idea what I can do with it. Does anyone have any ideas for me? Would it be worth it to rent a car for the day, or is it too short?

I’d go to the airport hotel, check my bag with bellman and enjoy the bar and restaurant.  
 

Another alternative would be to rent a car for the day and check out the beach.

I'd get off early, rent a car, and head to Amelia Island for a few hours.

Amelia Island is beautiful, but unless you're staying at one of the oceanside hotels/resorts, there is not a lot to see and do.

I suggest you take an Uber or taxi to Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), rent a car and drive south to St Augustine. It's a 56 minute drive (51 miles from JAX), mostly freeway. It is picturesque, and there are many sights to see.

You're fortunate to have a long layover in Jacksonville.
