Trip insurance/Refund question-1 week out

To make a long story short, my family member will not be able to make the cruise that is leaving next week.  Her husband has been notified that an organ donor has been found and they are on their way to getting this transplant.  She did not think it would come up anytime soon as he has been on the list for quite some time (years).  She did purchase travel insurance through the cruise line.

 

Issue:  There are two other people in her cabin.  How does this work?  Is it better for her to continue on as a "no-show" and get refunded from that because she is a caregiver now to someone getting an organ transplant?  Should she call the cruise line to cancel her ticket and go from there?  Will the other two people in the cabin be reassigned to another cabin since it is a 3 person cabin?  Will it be a new pricing rate this late in the game?  Again, cruise leaves literally next week!

Do the other people in the cabin have insurance? If so, then everyone will be made whole when your family member cancels. That is why you buy insurance.

She will not be refunded as a no-show except for taxes and port fees. I am not aware of any program that refunds caregivers, though I am happy to know the opportunity has arrived and wish them well.

If she does cancel AND this is considered a covered reason, she will be refunded at the 3rd person rate (doesn't matter what she paid or to whom) and will of course be refunded any port fees, taxes, drink packages, etc.
