Port stop in Dover - Car rental options?

We have an upcoming stop to Dover on our royal Caribbean cruise and are looking into ways to maximize our time there.

 

are there any convenient access to car rentals near the port?

Europcar and Enterprise both have locations in Dover. Europcar is closest to the cruise terminal but it’s still a good 20-25 minute walk. I don’t know whether they’ll meet you with a car at the terminal. Also both companies have very limited hours at weekends.

Europcar is the nearest, a level 15-minute walk (or about an £8 taxi ride) from the cruise terminal. Hertz just 5 minutes beyond (but a question-mark whether its operational) and Enterprise five minutes beyond Hertz.

That's about it for major brands that have depots throughout the UK including major airports.

If you're planning to return the car to the same depot there are also a couple of local operators.

How do you plan to use the car? (it makes a difference)
