Next Major Slot Tournament?

Thanks Bird.  Question. The cruise we are taking in November is hosting the 80’s Slot Tournament, is this something anyone on board can join, or do you have to book through CAS.  Is this type of tournament a big deal where a lot of players take over the slots throughout the cruise, or does it sort of run in the background like the ones I have seen onboard.  Since there has been recent posts about partially closed venues, do the tournaments typically close off a venue or two throughout the cruise?  I know you are very savvy about all things NCL, so hopefully you can help me understand how it works.  Thanks in advance.

The tournament is by invitation and you need to book it through the casino in advance.

They will have their normal normal slot tournament on the ship which are walk-up registrations for $30 each round. You have to win the round for consideration. The top round winners play in a final round, winner takes all (I think it about $200 prize).

The 80's tournament is like other tournaments. Maybe 6 players per round on 10 tournament machines (keeping some machines for re-buys), rounds every 4 minutes running for a total of 60-90 minutes. Usually 3 sessions on sea days. The description didn't sound like any other activities that week.

We just happened to be on the Escape when they had the Masquerade Slot Tournament in May. There were about 150 people in the tournament and the casino paid a total pool of $50K to the top 15 players. For that tournament, they had a private party in Syd Normans one night. The 80's tournament only has a $15K pool, so I would guess that it will be smaller without any other activities.

NCL used to have a poker tournament (winners from all other cruises). We were on the Epic one year when that was going on and it closed down the Bliss Lounge for the duration of the cruise for tournament space.

Thank you so much.  Some of your insight is a little over my head..lol, but it doesn’t seem like it will interfere with anything we would normally do.  Thanks.

i did the 80s tournament last year (on the joy, i think)... there was indeed an 80s themed party one night, with many people in costume. i stayed in there for about ten minutes.

it's unclear to me if you booked a CAS discounted rate (or comped cruise) or if you paid outright. if you have any sort of CAS rating at all, you can call to see if you can be "invited" to the tourney, even if you've already booked the cruise independently on a paid fare. i have heard of people who have talked CAS into inviting them to a particular tournament after the fact.
