Hotel stay in Monastiraki or Platka?

Hello, we will arrive in Athens three nights prior to our cruise - Wed, May 1 and our cruise leaves on Saturday, May 4.  I have read a lot about Athens Gate and several other hotels in Platka. While the views are unquestionably beautiful, I am thinking we can eat at a rooftop restaurant for the veiw.  Several You Tube videos suggest that Monastiraki might be more practical for walking around on the whole. But my true trust has always been my CCers!  If we are okay with missing the nightly view, would Monastiraki make sense?

Side note: I do not see that Athens Gate does has rooms available for 3 adults so the price would be double for us this trip if we stayed at that particular hotel.😔
