Is Bayonne bridge ever closed on weekends?  We used waze to get back to Long Island and it took us thru Holland Tunnel. There wasn’t anything for Bayonne bridge going back.

"Ever" or "never" can't be stated with any certainty, but since the reconstruction of the bridge was completed 4 1/2 years I've not heard of any major projects that would necessitate completely closing the bridge.

Waze doesn't give you every possible route, and the day you traveled perhaps there were two or three other routes with significantly shorter travel times than if you were to use the Bayonne Bridge.

It is not like they will increase the height of the Bayonne Bridge again anytime soon but you can check the weekly construction notices for all Port Authority of NY & NJ here. Do note as of 8/7 the notice for 8/4 is still posted and even 8/1 for a different bridge.
