Here is a link to a page Calgon's list - it was the original list I used when I sailed in 2001. They have since added and delted stuff. Hope you find it helpful.

We have used Calgon's list since our 1st cruise. We delete a lot, but it's very complete. I'm definitely a list maker and start packing a few weeks before :D

There is something very important missing from this list - 4 steamer trunks to hold all of this stuff! :D Holy Cow - I guess those of us that do the standard size cabins will have to reduce this list some since we won't have the square footage and storage that a suite does!

I agree, I wonder how you would get it all on a airplane!!

How to cut down on packing

1. Go on a nude cruise

2. Buy all your clothes onboard then return them on the last day

3. Just pack stuff you were going to throw out anyway. (more room for suvineers)

Derfette and I start out with four suitcases. Two for me and two for her. Not for long, Derfette need more space so I "Lend" her half of my second suitcase.

  • 4 weeks later...

I keep a pilot bag packed. It has a duplicate of all my makeup, hair needs, nail needs and toiletries. So the first list I need is the one I make when I "visualise" what I will be wearing each day. I note the clothing, shoes and accent pieces needed.

Then I have a second list that I leave by the door. It contains things like:

stop the mail

stop the paper

lock the gates

Load list:

documents

airline tickets

black suitcase

green suitcase etc you get the idea.

I have it saved on my computer, so all I have to do is "visualise" for 3 people (myself and 2 sons) , edit the list and print. (Hubby packs himself.)

I think Froufie, in a previous post, said it best...

"Okay here's what I do - cuz I am known for overpacking (as I"m sure many other cruisers are!).

I make a table/spreadsheet - listing days of the week down the side - including whether at sea, name of port/hrs and formal nights as well. Along the top I generally have 3 columns: daytime, evening and accessories (which includes jewellry, shoes, purses, etc). Then I start filling in the blanks - daytimes might be the same altho when in port might be different? (shorts-t/shirt, bathing suit, etc). Evenings I start w/the 2 formal nights - and then go from there. This ensures I have enuf clothes for all 7 days and I try NOT to bring any other items not on the list! (of course I also try to mix and match w/basic black clothing)

Of course I also add on the pagem underneath the table, the must haves: nightie, old t-shirt for use in water if required, socks, underwear, toiletries, meds, makeup, power bar, over door hanger, book, nightlight, travel mug, cruise docs, snorkel gear, etc."

I did something similar (without having read above) for a four-day on the Fascination. I think the only things I didn't use were one T-shirt and one bathing suit. Everything else was used, and used well.
