Excursions with cruise lines

More training required for excursion advisors.

I use a manual wheelchair with my partner pushing me.

Several times we have been booked on unsuitable excursions when booking in advance of cruise and also booking on board.

e.g. Unsuitable terrain, cobbles, gravel, steep hills, many steps etc, also unsuitable transport which cannot take my wheelchair.

I think advisors should be better informed of the conditions ashore.

When I have complained about these I have been told that their advice is based on information given to them by local tour operators.

Surely the excursion should be better researched by the cruise line before booking those with mobility issues on them.

I agree. We were recently in Italy and had an excursion booked  through the cruise line. The only part that I would consider accessible was the coach. It had a lift. Beyond that, the sidewalks and cobblestones were unmanageable.

Your post is just what I’ve been looking for.  We’ll be going on a 12-night cruise from Rome to Naples, Italy; Greece; Turkey; Cypress; and Crete.  Every tour is not suitable for those with mobility issues.  There was one that allowed wheelchairs, already sold out for October 2024.  What did you do when arriving at different ports in Europe?

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

The problem I have is that cruise ships don’t wait for you unless you’re booked through the cruise line.  So we’re da__d if we do or da__d if we don’t.  That’s why I’m so afraid of doing private tours for the disabled.
