Airfare...Chicago to Miami Price

Got $158 (+20$ fees) ORD to MIA January 06. Direct flight on American. This was a sale of course. I have gotten $260-270 during springbreak. This year got $230 to FLL from MDW with connections on AirTran (next week). I think you should be able to do better than $260 in late September, but you never know.

what (is) a good airfare to MIA or FLL is from Chicago?

This is a common question, but in the abstract the answer depends on what other conditions/constraints exist. Of course, one way is simply to monitor airfares over some period of time using parameters (e.g., time of departure, time of arrival, day of arrival, number of stops, etc.) that meet your requirements. If you want to get an idea of what other folks have obtained for round-trip airfares and explore the impacts of going to Miami vs. Ft. Lauderdale,

go to http://www.kayak.com

and select "Buzz". Insert your origin airport (e.g., ORD, MDW), a Region such as the United States, a Month of the Year, and some Max. Price like $200. You will then get a list of the top 25 destination airports (in numerical order) that others have searched for over the last 3 days. (Since Kayak doesn't sell tickets, this list does not represent booked trips.) While this is very current information, the problem from a cruiser's perspective is that it is based on travel times that you would probably find unacceptable. Still, it is somewhat illuminating and will give you what is probably the absolute best fare you could expect.

One more caveat. These fares are based on airlines that are searched by Kayak. Thus, it does not include Southwest Airlines (and some very minor airlines). So, as part of "what is a good fare", you may want to go to http://www.southwest.com

and see what range of fares they are offering. (Of course, it could only be for a trip from MDW to FLL.) Between these 2 sources, you should get a reasonable answer to your question.

If you can, invest some time in exploring some of the features of this site. One feature that is especially handy is that once you spend the time to insert all the parameters of interest and conduct a "search", it saves your parameters so that you can come back the next day and with just one click, conduct the same search again. This makes it very easy to "monitor" how air fares are changing over time. Their procedures for filtering the results are also noteworthy. Still, it is useful to note that no one site does everything.
