This is starting to look a little worrisome for those of us on the Nova next April. Eighteen slots a day is not very many, even if cruise ships get some sort of priority.

That's surprising.  The new locks 'recycle' the water to avoid depletion of Gatun... but I didn't note in the article that the capacity restriction was limited to the old locks (which SS would normally use).  Going to gave to do some additional reading.
