How can we watch College Football Playoffs on Prima?

Cruising Prima Dec 28-Jan 5 2024. Big college football fans and will want to watch the college Football Playoff games on NYE. Where might this be available on the ship?  What bars?  Will any NYE events prevent them from showing these games in the usual places?  If we bring a laptop or iPad will the upgraded internet package allow us to stream?

Your best bet would be in The Local.  They have tvs on both the bar side and restaurant side.  The issues is going to be if they are able to get it though.  Cruise lines that get ESPN will normally have the international feed which shows mostly soccer.

Thank you - Looks like games are on ESPN so that will help!

NYE falls on a Sunday, so the only games you'll be missing are NFL. And since you'll be in Costa Maya until 8 pm that day, you can probably get your football fix at a bar on land.

I updated my question to say the games are on New Years Day - same question just different day.

No College Football games on NYE this year.  NCAA doesn't like to go against NFL games.

Yes I saw games are on New Years Day.  Same question different day.  Games are on ESPN - so will this make it easier to watch?

If the games are on ESPN, you might be able to watch them on the TV in your cabin.  If they are being carried on your ship, your Freestyle Daily should channel and time information.

Our experience with these big sporting events on cruises hasn't been good.   What seems like an obvious choice in what to show at the bars, sometimes isn't obvious to the crew I guess.  Plus there are some issues with availability if at sea, etc.   I would start asking around on the first day of cruise.. maybe you can find the decision maker ahead of time and put in a request.

(Better karma if you would have asked this tomorrow (after BIG championship game) and not today don't want to jinx anything !!!!)

Ask the Cruise Director and/or the Hotel General Manger

Here's the issue.  We know this well, as we spend half of our time in Panama living on our boat.  ESPN/Disney/ABC is the most closely held and monitored broadcast on the planet.  They just won't allow it outside of the US and Canada.  While it's possible that cruise lines make deals with them, I would not be surprised if ESPN isn't available at all.

That leaves you with streaming and a VPN to "fool" ESPN into thinking you are still in the US, and watching it on one of your devices.  Challenging.

All I can say is that I've been around the world in January once a year on cruise ships including NCL in South Africa last year and they had every NFL playoff game on at the Casino Bar and/or the Local, I can also remember a national championship game on a ship a few years ago as well.  No guarantees, but I'd be surprised if they don't find a way to have those games on somewhere....
