Wolverines 5 Posted December 2, 2023 #1 Share Posted December 2, 2023 Cruising Prima Dec 28-Jan 5 2024. Big college football fans and will want to watch the college Football Playoff games on NYE. Where might this be available on the ship? What bars? Will any NYE events prevent them from showing these games in the usual places? If we bring a laptop or iPad will the upgraded internet package allow us to stream?
Rare Liljo22 Posted December 2, 2023 #2 Share Posted December 2, 2023 Your best bet would be in The Local. They have tvs on both the bar side and restaurant side. The issues is going to be if they are able to get it though. Cruise lines that get ESPN will normally have the international feed which shows mostly soccer.
AndyCapn Posted December 2, 2023 #3 Share Posted December 2, 2023 NYE falls on a Sunday, so the only games you'll be missing are NFL. And since you'll be in Costa Maya until 8 pm that day, you can probably get your football fix at a bar on land.
Rare www3traveler Posted December 2, 2023 #4 Share Posted December 2, 2023 I would doubt that you will be able to watch any of the college playoff games without paying for streaming. Not sure how well that would work either. Best Wishes
IrishCowboy Posted December 2, 2023 #5 Share Posted December 2, 2023 No College Football games on NYE this year. NCAA doesn't like to go against NFL games.

If they are being carried on your ship, your Freestyle Daily should channel and time information.

What seems like an obvious choice in what to show at the bars, sometimes isn't obvious to the crew I guess. Plus there are some issues with availability if at sea, etc. I would start asking around on the first day of cruise.. maybe you can find the decision maker ahead of time and put in a request. (Better karma if you would have asked this tomorrow (after BIG championship game) and not today don't want to jinx anything !!!!)

Vegasvolfan Posted December 2, 2023 #13 Share Posted December 2, 2023 I was just on Viva and they had zero college football on. 3 nfl on Sunday and Thur and Monday night only way to see college was to stream it yourself.
Rare Liljo22 Posted December 16, 2023 #14 Share Posted December 16, 2023 On the Prima now and they are playing the NFL games in the Local and on channel 18 in your cabin. It was listed in the Freestyle.
bstreep Posted December 22, 2023 #15 Share Posted December 22, 2023 Here's the issue. We know this well, as we spend half of our time in Panama living on our boat. ESPN/Disney/ABC is the most closely held and monitored broadcast on the planet. They just won't allow it outside of the US and Canada. While it's possible that cruise lines make deals with them, I would not be surprised if ESPN isn't available at all. That leaves you with streaming and a VPN to "fool" ESPN into thinking you are still in the US, and watching it on one of your devices. Challenging.

Bruce Knight Posted December 22, 2023 #17 Share Posted December 22, 2023 All I can say is that I've been around the world in January once a year on cruise ships including NCL in South Africa last year and they had every NFL playoff game on at the Casino Bar and/or the Local, I can also remember a national championship game on a ship a few years ago as well. No guarantees, but I'd be surprised if they don't find a way to have those games on somewhere....
