We’re in a V2 cabin for our upcoming Feb SE Asia cruise and can’t pick excursion until Dec 17 and some have started to go Sold Out.   Does Viking add spots to accommodate more people when they fill up.

If on December 17 you are sold out of a particular excursion, I suggest emailing Viking (TellUs@vikingcruises.com) and tell them how disappointed you are that such and such excursion is sold out and that you hope that they will be adding more seats. Don't forget to include your booking number on the e-mail. Viking doesn't keep waiting lists, so they have no idea if there is unfulfilled demand unless we out and out tell them. (Yes, I know, dumb system -- but it is the system we have to work with).

Then, check the shorex daily to see if any seats have become available (twice daily if it is something you really, really want). Viking will probably not contact you to say that seats have been added. MVJ closes to transactions 7 days before embarkation; at that point, you will have to wait until you board to see if any seats have opened up.

Also, on MVJ, even if it says sold out, click on the excursion just to double check that it  really is sold out in all time slots.

Another tip, I’ve had luck getting an excursion with the chat agent. She was able to see seats that hadn’t been posted on MVJ at the time, so do ask the agent to check, or call and ask. As stated, constant checking is your only option until you are onboard.

We’ve sailed on Viking River cruises before - we’ll be doing our first Viking Ocean. I know the date that we can book excursions….. does anyone know what time of day these open up? We’re in the US in CST. Thanks in advance!

By the way, if you go to "My Viking Journey" it will show the date and time your excursions will open. Click on the "Excursions" tab and there will be a message right at the top like this:

Shore Excursion booking opens February 12, 2024 starting at 12:00 PM (PT).

More correctly stated, Pacific Time. Regardless if is daylight standard time or not, it is by what you see on your clock, without having to worry if it is standard or daylight savings.  The only folks who will run into trouble are states (AZ, HI) and countries that don't use DST or countries that change clocks on a different schedule than the US; there will be a period of confusion when just looking at the clock will not help

Also, if you have logged in before Noon Pacific Time, you may have to refresh  your screen after noon to see that excursions have open. The screen may not automatically change at opening time

Absolutely correct!  loafin referenced CST, which is why I said PST 😊

You "might" see new slots being provided before your sailing, but it really depends on various factors.  Some excursions just have no way of providing more slots even if the demand is there.

However, don't stop checking even after your sailing has begun!  There are always people canceling and changing their excursions, and you might just get lucky and find something becoming available.  In addition, depending on the circumstances, guest service "might" allow you to be added on a waiting list (even for paid excursions), but you have to ask them to know if that's a possibility.
