visa required if not desembarking?

And, honestly, why would you go to Alaska and not leave the ship?  How often are you going to have that opportunity?  

In addition to your excellent points and the legalities articulated by @Ferry_Watcher, I would think one would want a visa or any other doc required to disembark at all ports of call in the event of illness or injury that would require treatment off the ship.
