Is Category A Worth the Extra Money?

We are looking at a Windstar cruise and wanted to get feedback on which category cabin to go with. It looks like the A and B are the same except for deck. Is the higher deck worth the extra money?

On the Wind Star and Wind Spirit the lower deck is great. Granted I've never been on the upper deck, but on deck B you are closer to the water. Great for looking out the port holes. Also, you can watch the water sloshing against the port holes if the seas are active. Pretty cool. We didn't feel much motion, but found the swells hitting the port holes great fun to watch. We also enjoy watching our clothes tumble around in our front load washer, just so you know where we're coming from.

For the extra money you have one less flight of stairs. That's about it.

On the last day of our cruise last year, we hit some pretty heavy swells in the Atlantic (coming into Lisbon). I know that on 'A' deck, we could hear a lot of thumping from the stabilizers. Would they be just that much louder one deck down?

We have cruised on Windstar 5 times. The first time we were on B and enjoyed it but when we tried A the next year, it was a great improvement. On A you can see out the window and don't have water sloshing at it all the time. A lot of travel agents seem to offer free upgrades. Either A or B, you will have a wonderful time. Just make sure you are not near the fitness center room.
