Marseilles Port Transfers to Cassis

While our RCI cruise offers a shore excursion to Cassis, it sounds more like a bus transfer and then we are on our own for the day.  That is great but not for $133 per person.

Prefer not to do the train which I know is an option.

Has anyone used a private transfer to get from the port to Cassis?   Referrals appreciated.

Thank you

We decided to do Cassis on our own from Marseille.  Took a taxi to the train station and purchased round trip tickets to Cassis.  Once arrived up the hill from Cassis, there was a bus for a couple of Euro to take us down to the port of Cassis.  EASY PEASY!!!

Not so fast.  Getting back was a nightmare.  There were no taxis in Cassis to take the 4 of us back up the hill to the train station (about 2 miles).  Bus schedule to get up to the train station was sporadic.   Finally got a bus to the train station and hopped on the next scheduled train to Marseille.  Once we got to Marseille, there were long queues to get a taxi.  We would have missed the ship, but the sailing was delayed waiting for a ship's excursion to return.   We won't do that again.

Rent a car would be the best bet.  Taxi to car rental and taxi back to the ship.

We are trying to work out how to do this as well.  Is it possible to get a taxi direct from the port to Cassis?  I see the distance is 37km so it won’t be cheap, but neither is car rental.

The plan would be to get the bus/train back.

You will have read the post above which explained the potential travel challenges.

If you intend to go to to Cassis with the sole intention of taking a boat trip to the Calanques, you could do that from the Vieux Port in Marseille without having to make the return journey to Cassis.  We have never found the town of Cassis itself to be particularly interesting, although it is pleasant enough sitting at the harbour area with a drink for a time.Much better shopping to be found in Marseille, also a much bigger selection of restaurants.

We are specifically interested in whether a taxi will take us all the way, which no-one has commented yet.

Should you find a taxi at Fos, a driver will probably be really happy to take you all the way to Cassis, but as he/she will likely have to return without a fare it could be costly- although that is a guesstimate.

Are there any online taxi companies you could e-mail to get an approximate cost? Or have you tried googling something like " transfer from port of Fos to Cassis"??
