mcp95 Posted March 30 #1 Share Posted March 30 My wife and I have only been on two cruises, both on Princess. Our first cruise was in Summer 2022 at the tail end of the COVID cruise restrictions aboard the Crown Princess (3090 capacity) to Alaska, sailing under capacity. The Internet speed was okay (around 3mb) definitely usable for email and electronically signing work documents. Our second cruise was in Jan 2023 aboard the Discovery Princess (3660 capacity) to Mexico, sailing after all COVID restrictions were lifted. The ship was sailing near capacity. Although we were positioned ideally for faster Internet service, it was pretty much unusable. We couldn't access emails or electronically sign documents without getting timeouts. We had to rely on shore 4G service, which was okay because we were mostly in the same time-zone as work. We are now considering a Mediterranean cruise aboard the Sun Princess in Summer 2025. With a capacity of 4300, I am concerned that the Internet will also be completely unusable. This could be a problem since the time-zone difference limits our interaction with work to the evenings when we are back on the ship. QUESTION: Does anyone know if Princess is using additional (load-balanced) Internet connections to handle the added passenger capacity of their new ships, Sun Princess and Star Princess? beg3yrs Posted March 30 #2 Share Posted March 30 Internet access on all Princess ships has been converted to Starlink. Performance based on geographic location is now pretty much uniform. Starlink satellites are now cross-linked too so previous reports of trouble if they're not in range of a ground station are no longer valid. Previous reports on other threads regarding the performance on the Sun Princess has IMHO been pretty much in line with all other ships in the fleet. Pretty good but not mind boggling. Read through some of the Sun Princess threads and you'll get the first-hand reports of actual speeds.
