TNTKP Posted March 25, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 25, 2006 Question for anyone who might know: We will be travelling from San Juan, PR to San Francisco, CA - with a connection in Atlanta. Sorry, now for the question: Do we need to collect luggage and go through customs in Atlanta, or will this be done in San Juan? Have never done this, and even the airline rep was unsure..... Thanks, Tim
JJPNYC Posted March 25, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 25, 2006 I believe that you don't need to clear customs at all on this since Puerto Rico is a US territory. I could be wrong but wanted to thow this out there.
marshabear Posted March 26, 2006 #3 Share Posted March 26, 2006 you are correct...when we flew San Juan to PIT, we stopped in Newark...we did NOT have to go through customs and we did NOT have to pick up luggage and have it rechecked... the only thing is...if you fly 2 different airlines, (ex. fly Continental from San Juan then fly Delta from Atlanta to San Fran,) then you MAY have to get your luggage and recheck it.....not sure on this.... caribbean dreams Posted March 26, 2006 #4 Share Posted March 26, 2006 Just fly from San Juan to San Francisco with a Dallas connection, if you are getting off a ship you will clear customs on the ship, when you get to the airport you will not have to clear customs again. If you are not on a ship then you will only have to clear customs at the Puero Rico airport, its smooth sailing from there on out. there were alot a people standing in line at the airport thinking they had to get cleared again, just walk pass that line straight to the window, when they see the ships tag on your bags they will know you have already been cleared by customs.
