I had never taken altitude meds and never had issues at altitude, and we've skied in the Rockies many times and gorilla trekked in Rwanda just fine.  But I'm getting older (sigh) and didn't want to take any chances of missing anything during our days in Quito, so got Rx for Diamox and took it just in case.

Me too about getting older. I too have hiked in RMNP & lots of other NP. We are big hikers.  Just came back from 10 days hiking in GSMNP. After memorial day, we are heading to SD, CO & WY for 17 nights & hitting more NP. But it can't hurt to get a scrip for Diamex. As we get older, the body doesn't react as well as when we were younger! Thanks so much for all your wonderful hints. Sounds like you had a great time. We are looking forward to it.
