Carrying Baggage On at Carnival Terminal in Galveston

My sister and I will be cruising on the Breeze on May 30. We prefer a later arrival, and are planning on a 1:30 check in time. I was considering just carrying all of our baggage on with us, as rooms should be ready by the time we embark. Has anyone done this before? What are the pros and cons? My main concern is having to drag our suitcases up flights of stairs.

We do every time. The scanner is larger than airport ones. and there is no weight limit.
