mirrajay Posted June 16, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 16, 2004 I noticed on Carnival's site that you can order fun ship dollars for use onboard (like onboard ship credit). This seems like a brilliant idea to buy for yourself! Right now, I am putting money in a savings account for my cruise, but have been tempted (and have given into temptation a few times) to take money out of there for other things. So, I could buy Fun Ship Dollars and its basically like putting money on your sign and sail card right?? Is there a catch here? Are there things you cant spend the Fun Ship Dollars on? Has anyone done this? Thanks! Carey Carnival Victory, here I come!
jfritz126 Posted June 16, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 16, 2004 You can order them from Carnival and you can do one of two things::::have them send them to you so you can fill them out & send them back:::r when you order them from Carnival you can have them applied directly to you sail & sign. The first option is for people who want to buy them for gifts. The only info you need to do them that way is the dollar amount you want, your credit card # and the mailing address. serene56 Posted June 16, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 16, 2004 I would take Jills second options. Call Carnival and have the fun ship dollars applied to your sign and sail card. That way there is no back and forth with paperwork. Keep reciepts incase you dont see it on your sign and sail card when you board. dustyroad Posted June 16, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 16, 2004 mirrajay i have the same dendency. things alwasys seem to come up that will try to wipe out the 'fun money i save up'. i solved the problem by having a xmas club account deducted from my paycheck that i cant touch. when i get the check in nov from the bank i add it too a regular savings and hide the book so i am not tempted to get into it. it is amazing how fast the money adds up. good luck with the fun pass money. mirrajay Posted June 16, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted June 16, 2004 Well unless I am missing something important about the Fun Ship Dollars this seems like a more sucessful way to save money for my cruise especially since I am afraid as it gets closer I will think I have to buy every cute outfit I see in every store I am in and that could quickly deplete the savings account! I think I'll buy myself $100 worth right now! Carnival Victory, here I come!
QTPieRye Posted June 16, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 16, 2004 Are you able to have the Fun Ship $$ applied to your Sail & Sign account if you booked through a TA? In other words, I am in Carnival's system, but worry because I don't have a Carnival booking # that they might be applied incorrectly???? mirrajay Posted June 16, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted June 16, 2004 Your TA should be able to give you your Carnival number. I booked through Expedia and had to get it from them. Carnival Victory, here I come!
QTPieRye Posted June 16, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 16, 2004 mirrajay- I've asked my TA and she gave me a booking #, but it is a group block through her agency and it does not work on the Carnival website or when I called Carnival. I was able, however, to complete my FunPass, so I know I'm in the system, just not with a Carnival booking #. You can take the girl out of the city, but you can't take the city out of the girl! dustyroad Posted June 16, 2004 #9 Share Posted June 16, 2004 that is too funny. i do the same thing. for my last cruise i think i ended up buying out two stores because of all the cute things i wanted. what ever works for you is the way too go. i am thinking about picking up some fun dollars myself as the time gets closer and i have that much money in the regular savings i 'havent touched yet'. mirrajay Posted June 16, 2004 Author #10 Share Posted June 16, 2004 Well darn!! I went to buy them and there isnt a place where you can do it for yourself and just have it applied to your S&S card. They only have the option to buy them and have them mailed to you. I'll have to give them a call tonight to do it the other way. QTPieRye - since you have to call anyway, you can probably get your booking number from Carnival. Carnival Victory, here I come!
QTPieRye Posted June 16, 2004 #11 Share Posted June 16, 2004 Mirrajay- Let me know what you find out about the FunShip $. I have previously called Carnival and because I booked through a TA, they would not provide me with any information other than verified I was on the Conquest for the 9/19 sailing. I am not sure, but I don't think the TA books individual bookings for her customers... just a block of rooms. In July, when final payment is due and she actual submits all the info to Carnival, I think then I will get a Carnival booking #. Does anyone have clarification on this? steveaaaa Posted June 16, 2004 #12 Share Posted June 16, 2004 I just mailed off $600 worth today to CCL and I had to mail it registered to be safe. It states on the back that you can also (for on board credit)... Present the certificates to your travel agent that made the booking. (they will have to either give you the booking # or they will have to mail them to CCL.Get a receipt from the TA. Steve
QTPieRye Posted June 16, 2004 #13 Share Posted June 16, 2004 Steveaaaa- thanks for the info. That makes sense. So you have the FunShip dollars mailed to you, and then you either have to return them to Carnival or TA for proper credit to your Sail & Sign account. I assume the other post about ordering them online directly to your S&S account isn't accurate and that they have to be mailed out by Carnival. mirrajay Posted June 16, 2004 Author #14 Share Posted June 16, 2004 Okay - here it is...I called Carnival and there is not a way to have money applied to your sail and sign card, but you can order them and have them mailed to you and simply take them on the cruise with you and give them to the purser to apply to your sail and sign card. I think it seems easier to buy travelers checks which will do the same exact thing and are more insured if lost. Carnival Victory, here I come! serene56 Posted June 16, 2004 #16 Share Posted June 16, 2004 and if you call CArnival again and speak to another representative you will get a differnt answer...lol. Speaking to a representive whose name is Alvi at Carnival you can buy fun ship dollars which CAN be applied to your accout. You have to tell the person on the phone how you want it applied..eith on the credit or as fun ship dollars which you will receieve in the mail and turn back in BEFORE your cruise. You can ONLY buy certain denoniations, $25. $50. $100 or $500. You can purchase this as many times as you want up til sailing. You will need your booking number which is supplied by your travel agent when you book. cruizintexas Posted June 16, 2004 #17 Share Posted June 16, 2004 Just got off the phone with carnival. You can only order these up until 2 weeks prior to your cruise, and they can mail them to you or keep them for you. If you call within 2 weeks of your cruise up until 2 bus.days prior you have to send them a copy of DL and CC. So make sure you BUY EARLY!! Happy Cruising! 10/03 Carnival Elation!! Can't wait..... powriel Posted June 16, 2004 #18 Share Posted June 16, 2004 I ordered fun ship dollars many times for our cruise this past February and have again for our cruise in August. I call Carnival and order them using my debit card and have them placed directly on my sign and sail. They fax me a confirmation. So simple and on our last cruise we ended getting a check for $51 on our last morning. It was great not having a sign and sail bill to worry about after the cruise. 8/25 Carnival Spirit Conquest 2/03 Glory 2/
serene56 Posted June 16, 2004 #19 Share Posted June 16, 2004 So after speaking to Alvi I was able to place 100.00 on a onboard credit. My cruise is February 2005, According to Alvi I can do this each month up til sailing. (see what I mean by getting conflicting information by different people who work for the same company??) tjevans Posted June 16, 2004 #20 Share Posted June 16, 2004 If you have your booking number, you can purchase onboard credit ahead of time. There is no need to go threough the intermediate step of purchasing funship dollars. I can't tell you where to call to do this, but we had several people buy us credit as a wedding present, and they said they didn't have to do funship dollars. mirrajay Posted June 16, 2004 Author #21 Share Posted June 16, 2004 Well what the heck is up with that!? Darn Enrique or whoever I just spoke to! Oh well, I think I am just going to stick with travelers checks in case anything unforseen might happen. The Fun Ship Dollars are non refundable and knowing my luck I would lose them on the plane or even worse at the pier and someone else would have fun with my hard earned Fun Ship Dollars! Congrats to those who actually got the money applied to your S&S - you think they would make it easier for folks to give them money! Carnival Victory, here I come! jfritz126 Posted June 16, 2004 #22 Share Posted June 16, 2004 The number to contact Carnival for fun ship dollars (or s&s credit) is 1-800-906-7603. We have ordered them this way and it really is nice to not have such a large S&S bill at the end of the week. It's depressing enough to have to get off the ship without having a "war & peace" sized S&S bill. mirrajay Posted June 16, 2004 Author #23 Share Posted June 16, 2004 Well, me being a little wishy - washy as I tend to be, went ahead and called that number (thanks, jfritz) at first they said no, but then said that they can do that after I told them I knew it could be done. They just seem to explain it in a different way - she said "you can order Fun Ship Dollars and we can handle it internally and assign it to your account." Duh! Thats what I've been saying all along!!! So, just to prove that I've finally conquored the system, I put $100 on my S&S account! Carnival Victory, here I come! QTPieRye Posted June 16, 2004 #24 Share Posted June 16, 2004 I am going to call and try to do this without my carnival booking #. I know I am in their system, I just don't have a booking # because of the situation with the travel agency as described above.
